In the building industry, there is always a right and a wrong way to do a job
The video (see the link below) above shows a guy standing on top of a three storey wall, demolishing the wall with a sledgehammer. Guts..? Stupidity..? Workplace culture, necessity, maybe so. However, it is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt. Then he’s not earning anything anymore (except with a tin cup).
Fortunately here in Australia, we get most of this stuff pretty right, most of the time. It has taken a long time, though. Back in the day, there were plenty of ‘cowboys’ out there. Luckily for all of us, the culture of being a hero and taking risks just is not on anymore.
There is always a right way and a wrong way to get a job done. This video proves that. You can get away with doing things the wrong way for a while, maybe for a bit longer than a while, but eventually, it will come crashing down, on someone!
It still surprises us how often we see builders and some construction companies trying to run multiple projects and teams of subbies by using spreadsheets, paper-based processes. They then do invoices and payments out of a completely separate system, re-entering data and hoping it will all go okay. Our experience has been that builders running multiple software packages often struggle with data duplication and just make mistakes that could be avoided.
Integrated Construction Software
Just like when you’re smashing a wall down, there is always more than one way to get the job done. It’s the same if you want to run a fully integrated construction management software package. Rather than cobbling together several different non-specialist packages, we recommend a better, easier way. By using a completely integrated construction software package. An integrated construction management system is where all the data and processes feed into one another from one data entry point. That means you can have confidence that the business stuff (tax, invoices, payments, cash flow, retentions, margins and more) are all linked in together, with no gaps. There is no double entry, no room for mistakes, no loss of money and you can report and track your builder retentions. Integration means you can easily get reports to check that your projects and clients are doing just fine.
